Golf driver hitting heel

 · A golf heel shot is when the golf ball strikes the far left portion (not the hosel) of the clubface. Most commonly hitting the golf ball on the heel results in golf slices that curve around to the right and into trouble. The reason why you hit your driver off the heel may be the outside-in swing or coming over the top. When you come over the top, this will push your driver head away from your body causing the heel hits. At the same time, the over the top move will cause you to add slice spin on the ball.

Hitting the ball a half inch below the center can turn a degree driver into an 8 degree driver – a distance killer on uphill or wet fairways. Hitting a half inch towards the heel can add as much as rpm spin, another distance killer. During a fitting, we look at a number of things that could be causing heel shots. If you are hitting towards the heel or if you are shanking the ball line up with the ball off the hosel not the toe. Lining up off the toe on exacerbates the problem because you feel as though you have to reach and when you do you hit hit the heel or hosel again.
